As the world’s population grows, the growth and industrialization of agriculture to meet the increasing demand for food creates both opportunities and challenges for food safety. According to WHO, food safety is a public health priority, everyone can contribute to making food safe. In order to ensure food safety GREENCERT ACADEMY builds capacity on food safety management systems in accordance with the requirement of the ISO 22000:2018 International Standard; thus, assisting food business operators to prevent, detect and manage foodborne risks.
During food production, processors can ensure safe food handling practices and procedures are implemented at every stage in order to curb these risks and prevent harm to consumers. GREENCERT ACADEMY offers a variety of programs, one of the programs is the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP). HACCP is a management system in which food safety is addressed through the analysis and control of biological, chemical, and physical hazards from raw material production, procurement and handling, to manufacturing, distribution and consumption of the finished product.
On May 2021 a group of Agronomists from TAHA and Local Government Authorities, were trained on HACCP. Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) is designed for use in all segments of the food industry from growing, harvesting, processing, manufacturing, distributing, and merchandising to preparing food for consumption educating and training the agronomists is an important step in producing safe foods.
In this program the delegates learned information on the control of foodborne hazards related to all stages of the food chain, the concept of HACCP and skills necessary to make it function properly. This training included working instructions and procedures that outline the tasks of agronomists in monitoring each CCP.
In accordance to Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, when food is not safe, human development simply cannot take place. FAO has a plan of action for people, planet and prosperity, the 2030 Agenda calls for everyone, in particular people in developing countries like Tanzania should have access to safe, nutritious and sufficient food all year round.
GREENCERT is well equipped with Tutors that can educate and train personnel on the importance of food safety in all stages of the food chain, through the HACCP program GREENCERT facilitators ensure that the delegates at the end of the program by following guidelines will facilitate the development and implementation of effective HACCP plans and produce food safety experts.
